220V-240V LED strips are designed to create extended lines of light without the high-capacity power supplies normally required by low-voltage systems. They are used on façades, ceilings, in shops, hotels, restaurants, warehouses, window displays, terraces and architectural lighting projects.
These strips are connected to the mains through a dedicated power cable, rectifier and compatible connectors. Their higher operating voltage allows longer runs with lower current and reduces some of the voltage-drop problems associated with 12V and 24V LED strips.
12V and 24V DC LED strips require a power supply that converts mains voltage to low-voltage direct current. They are suitable for furniture, kitchens, shelves, vehicles, compact installations and projects requiring shorter cutting intervals.
220V-240V LED strips are particularly suitable for long runs. They do not require a conventional 12V or 24V power supply, but they do need a compatible rectifier and connection kit.
The distance between cutting points is usually greater than on a low-voltage strip. Check both the cutting interval and the maximum permitted length for each connection before choosing a product.
A high-voltage strip must not be connected with improvised wiring. A compatible 220V-240V LED strip connection kit is required, normally consisting of a power cable, rectifier, connector and pins.
The rectifier adapts the alternating mains current for use by the LED circuit. End caps, sealing adhesive, intermediate connectors and other model-specific accessories may also be required.
Calculate the total load by multiplying the power consumption per metre by the installed length. Although these strips support long runs, every power cable, rectifier and connector has a maximum capacity that must not be exceeded.
Compare the number of lumens per metre rather than wattage alone when selecting the required brightness. Moderate-output strips may be sufficient for ambient lighting, while commercial areas, façades and working spaces may require greater light output.
Warm white creates a comfortable atmosphere in hotels, restaurants, terraces and decorative areas. Neutral white provides balanced illumination for shops and general-purpose spaces, while cool white creates a brighter appearance for technical and working areas.
For brightness control, use a dimmable 220V LED strip together with a regulator compatible with the model and total connected power. Not every high-voltage LED strip can be dimmed.
220V-240V strips may only be cut at the points indicated by the manufacturer. Cutting outside an authorised point can disable a complete section and leave dangerous electrical components exposed.
Measure the complete route before cutting and adapt each section to the permitted interval. Ends, connections and cutting points must be fully insulated before the electrical supply is switched on.
Strips can be fixed using compatible channels, brackets or clips. Correct support keeps the installation aligned and prevents movement, deformation and unnecessary strain on the electrical connections.
When using a profile, make sure there is sufficient space for both the strip and its connectors. All components must be suitable for the operating voltage and environmental conditions.
For façades, terraces and damp areas, choose a strip with a suitable IP protection rating. The protection rating of the outer covering does not automatically make the complete installation waterproof.
Connectors, cable entries, end caps and cutting points must be carefully sealed and protected against standing water, immersion and mechanical damage unless the product is specifically rated for those conditions.
Always handle the strip with the electrical supply disconnected. Never cut, connect, roll or unroll it while energised. Do not switch the strip on while it remains coiled, as accumulated heat may damage it.
Because the strip operates directly from mains voltage, installation should be completed or inspected by a qualified electrician, particularly for outdoor areas, commercial premises and permanent installations.
