Outdoor LED floodlights with PIR motion sensors

LED floodlights with motion sensors provide automatic illumination for entrances, façades, patios, garages, car parks, warehouses and circulation areas. The PIR sensor detects the presence of people within its coverage area and switches the light on when required.

How does a PIR floodlight work?

A PIR motion sensor detects changes in infrared radiation when a person or animal moves through its detection area. When movement is identified, the sensor automatically switches on the floodlight.

This avoids the need to operate a switch manually and helps prevent the lighting from remaining on when the area is empty. It is particularly practical for occasionally used locations such as entrances, paths, doorways, patios and garages.

Automatic lighting for access and security

Automatic activation improves visibility when arriving at a property, opening a door, entering a garage or walking through an outdoor area at night. The sudden illumination can also indicate that movement has occurred around the property.

A sensor floodlight does not replace an alarm or surveillance system, but it complements access lighting and prevents the area from remaining completely dark when movement is detected.

Lumileds LED chips

The floodlights in this category incorporate Lumileds LED chips to generate powerful illumination within a compact design. The chip works together with the optics, driver and heat-dissipation system.

The aluminium body provides rigidity and helps transfer heat away during operation. The glass front protects the optical assembly and distributes the light across a wide surface.

30W LED floodlight with motion sensor

The 30W model with removable PIR sensor is suitable for entrances, smaller patios, porches, garages, paths and residential areas. The sensor can be positioned to adapt its detection area to the floodlight location and expected direction of movement.

Its power provides functional illumination without installing an oversized floodlight in a small or medium-sized space.

50W Aurora floodlight with remote control

The 50W Aurora LED floodlight with PIR sensor and remote control is intended for larger areas such as patios, car parks, façades, warehouses and commercial entrances.

The remote provides access to supported functions without physically reaching the sensor after installation. Available options should be checked on the individual product page, as functions may vary between models.

IP65 protection for outdoor installations

The floodlights provide IP65 protection against dust ingress and water jets. This makes them suitable for many outdoor installations exposed to rain and moisture.

IP65 does not mean that the floodlight can be submerged or installed underwater. Cables, joints, connectors and junction boxes must also be correctly protected to maintain the safety of the complete installation.

Correct positioning of the motion sensor

Location directly affects sensor performance. The floodlight should be positioned so people move across the detection area rather than only approaching in a straight line from a long distance.

Avoid aiming the sensor directly at roads, moving branches, heat sources, air outlets or areas with activity outside the property. Incorrect positioning may cause unnecessary activations or reduce detection performance.

Mounting height, sensor angle and surrounding obstacles can also affect its range. Walls, glass, vegetation and other objects may limit or alter detection.

Choosing the correct power

The 30W model is suitable for entrances, porches, garages and small or medium-sized areas. The 50W model provides greater lighting capacity for patios, car parks, façades and larger spaces.

Select the power according to the dimensions, mounting height, distance from the illuminated surface and required light level. Excessive power may produce glare, while insufficient output can leave dark areas.

Safe electrical installation

The bracket must be fixed to a stable surface and allow both the floodlight and sensor to be positioned correctly. Do not cover the luminaire or install it where heat dissipation is obstructed.

Complete the electrical connection with the power disconnected and use cables, boxes and connectors suitable for outdoor use. Permanent installations should be completed or inspected by a qualified electrician.
