LED aluminium profiles for installing and protecting LED strips

LED aluminium profiles provide a clean, stable and professional way to install LED strip lights. In addition to concealing the circuit and integrating the lighting into its surroundings, aluminium helps dissipate heat and protects the strip against impacts, dust and handling.

Why install an LED strip inside a profile?

An LED strip attached directly to wood, plaster or another surface remains exposed and may produce an unfinished appearance. A profile creates a rigid base, keeps the strip correctly aligned and makes the complete installation neater and easier to maintain.

Aluminium also assists with LED strip heat dissipation. Better temperature management can help maintain performance and extend the service life of the LEDs, particularly with high-power strips or installations that operate for many hours.

Surface-mounted LED profiles

Surface-mounted LED profiles are installed directly onto furniture, walls, ceilings, shelves or other structures using suitable brackets, screws or adhesives. They are a practical choice when cutting a recess into the mounting surface is not possible.

They are commonly used under kitchen cabinets, inside wardrobes, on shelves, in display cases and above working areas. Surface mounting adds linear lighting without requiring extensive modifications.

Recessed and corner LED profiles

Recessed LED strip profiles are installed inside a prepared channel, leaving mainly the diffuser visible. Their side flanges cover the edges of the cut-out and provide a discreet finish in furniture, ceilings, walls, stairs and panels.

Corner profiles position the strip at an angle and direct the light towards a worktop, wall, display case or circulation area. They are particularly useful in kitchens, wardrobes, shop displays and junctions between two surfaces.

Clear, opal and black diffusers

An LED profile diffuser protects the strip and changes how the light is perceived. A clear cover allows higher light transmission, while an opal or translucent diffuser softens the light and reduces the visibility of individual LED points.

The final result also depends on the profile depth and the number of LEDs per metre. To create a more continuous line of light, combine sufficient profile depth with a suitable diffuser and a high-density LED strip.

Dark or black diffusers create a more discreet appearance when the lighting is switched off, although they may reduce the transmitted light more significantly.

How to choose the correct aluminium profile

Before ordering, check the internal width of the profile and compare it with the width of the LED strip. Also consider the available height, installation method, strip power and required lighting effect.

• Internal width: must accommodate the strip without bending or compressing the circuit.
• Depth: affects light diffusion and the visibility of individual LED points.
• Mounting type: surface, recessed, corner, suspended or architectural integration.
• Diffuser: clear for greater transmission or opal for more uniform light.
• Accessories: compatible end caps, clips, brackets, joints and fixing components.

Installation and use in damp areas

Profiles can be cut to the required length using tools suitable for aluminium. Measure the complete installation before cutting and allow space for end caps, connectors and cable entries. Remove sharp edges to prevent damage to the strip or wiring.

An aluminium profile with a diffuser is not automatically waterproof. In bathrooms, kitchens, terraces and outdoor locations, use a strip with a suitable IP rating and correctly protect all connections, cable entries, ends and cutting points.
