LED strip coving and mouldings for indirect lighting

LED strip coving and mouldings integrate lighting into walls and ceilings to create a soft, uniform and decorative indirect effect. The LED strip remains concealed inside the moulding and projects its light onto a nearby surface, preventing the individual LED points from remaining directly visible.

These solutions are used in living rooms, bedrooms, hallways, entrance areas, restaurants, hotels, offices, shops and interior design projects. In addition to providing ambient lighting, LED coving can define architectural shapes, highlight structural details and make a space feel larger.

LED coving for ceilings and walls

LED ceiling coving can be installed near the junction between the wall and ceiling to project light upwards. This type of installation creates soft illumination and helps reduce harsh shadows and glare.

Wall mouldings can direct light upwards, downwards or in both directions, depending on their design and position. They can also be used to create decorative lines, illuminate corridors and highlight particular areas of a room.

Difference between LED coving and an aluminium profile

A moulding primarily has a decorative and architectural function. It conceals the LED strip, wiring and sometimes part of the electrical installation, integrating the light into the room design.

An aluminium profile for LED strips acts as a technical support, assists with heat dissipation and may include a diffuser. Depending on the design, an aluminium profile can be installed inside the moulding to improve fixing and thermal management.

How to choose a moulding for LED lighting

Before ordering, check the dimensions of the moulding and the internal space available for the strip, profile, connectors and wiring. Consider the direction in which the light will be projected and the distance between the moulding and illuminated surface.

• Light direction: towards the ceiling, wall, floor or in several directions.
• Dimensions: should suit the size of the room and available installation space.
• Distance: affects the width and uniformity of the reflected light.
• Material: must be suitable for the required fixing system and finish.
• Access: the strip and its connections should remain serviceable.

Which LED strip should be used in coving?

Select the power and lumens per metre according to the size of the room and required effect. Moderate output may be sufficient for ambient lighting. If the indirect lighting must provide a significant part of the general illumination, a strip with a higher luminous output will be required.

A high-density LED strip produces a more uniform line and reduces visible points or dark areas in the reflected light. Greater distance between the strip and the wall or ceiling can also improve light diffusion.

Colour temperature, CCT and RGB

Warm white creates a comfortable atmosphere in living rooms, bedrooms, restaurants and hotels. Neutral white provides a balanced appearance for offices, kitchens and commercial spaces, while cool white creates a brighter and more technical effect.

CCT strips allow the colour temperature to be adjusted. RGB, RGBW and RGB+CCT systems add colours and decorative effects. A compatible controller is required to adjust brightness, white tone or colours.

Installation and electrical planning

Before fixing the moulding, plan the location of the power supply, controller, cables and connection points. These components should remain ventilated and accessible for maintenance rather than being enclosed in an unsuitable space.

Long runs may require several power injection points to prevent reduced brightness. Joints between mouldings should also be planned carefully to maintain a continuous visual line around corners and changes of direction.
