220V flexible LED neon for continuous light lines and long runs

220V flexible LED neon makes it possible to create continuous illuminated lines, outlines and decorative shapes over longer installations. Its diffusing cover reduces the visibility of individual LED points and produces a uniform lighting effect for façades, shops, hotels, restaurants, terraces, events and architectural lighting projects.

Unlike low-voltage products, 220-240V flexible neon can operate from the mains supply through a dedicated power cable, rectifier and compatible connectors. This allows longer runs without installing a high-capacity external power supply, although additional care is required during installation.

Difference between 220V and 12V LED neon

12V LED neon requires a power supply that converts mains voltage to low-voltage direct current. It is suitable for compact installations, vehicles, furniture and projects requiring shorter cutting intervals.

220V LED neon is mainly intended for longer runs. The higher operating voltage requires less current for the same power and reduces some of the voltage-drop problems associated with extensive 12V installations.

However, 220V neon operates at a hazardous voltage and must only be installed with compatible components and in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Connection and rectifier for 220V LED neon

The product must not be connected to the mains using improvised wiring. A compatible 220V LED neon connection kit is required, normally consisting of a connector, power cable and rectifier.

The rectifier converts the alternating mains current into the electrical supply required by the LED circuit. Pins, end caps, sealing adhesive and other model-specific accessories may also be required.

Cutting and planning each section

220V flexible LED neon may only be cut at the points clearly indicated by the manufacturer. Its cutting intervals are generally longer than those of low-voltage products and depend on the internal circuit design.

Measure the complete route before cutting and adapt the design to the permitted intervals. Cutting outside a marked point can disable a section or leave electrical components without suitable protection.

Bending, channels and mounting accessories

Side-bending and vertical-bending models are available. Check the permitted bending direction and observe the minimum bending radius before installation. Forcing, twisting or folding the product through a tight angle can damage its conductors and internal circuit.

Channels, guides, brackets and clips help maintain straight lines and uniform curves. Correct fixing prevents movement, deformation and unnecessary strain on the connections.

Outdoor use and water protection

For façades, terraces and areas exposed to moisture, choose a model with a suitable IP protection rating. The IP rating of the neon body does not automatically make the complete installation waterproof.

Connectors, end caps, cutting points and cable entries must be correctly sealed. They should also be protected against standing water, immersion and mechanical stress unless the product is specifically rated for those conditions.

Safety with 220-240V installations

Installation must always be completed with the electrical supply disconnected. Never cut, handle or connect the neon while it is energised. Open ends and electrical contacts must be fully insulated before the power is switched on.

Because this product is connected to mains voltage, installation should be performed or inspected by a qualified electrician, particularly for outdoor areas, commercial premises and permanent installations.
